Privacy Policy

Last updated 12 September 2026

FairShare is an expense-splitting app for trips and shared households. This policy explains what it collects, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not to be survived.

1. Who we are

FairShare ("we", "the app") is operated from the Philippines. For any privacy question, or to exercise the rights in section 8, contact claiderreym@gmail.com.

2. What we collect

DataWhere it comes fromWhy
Email address, display name, profile picture Your Google account when you sign in with Google, or what you type when you sign up with an email and password To identify you, show you to the rest of your group, and let you sign back in
Trips, expenses, amounts, dates, categories, payment methods, notes on who owes whom Entered by you or by other members of your trip The core function of the app — there is no product without it
Receipt photos Uploaded by you, optionally To evidence an expense for your group
Settlement records Entered by you when a debt is paid off To keep balances accurate over time

We do not collect payment details. FairShare records who owes what; it never moves money and has no access to any bank account, card or e-wallet. Recording that "Macky paid Cleid ₱7,757.12 by GCash" stores that sentence, nothing more.

We do not use advertising identifiers, run third-party analytics or tracking, sell data, or build profiles for marketing.

3. Who can see your data

Expenses, balances and receipts in a trip are visible to the members of that trip. That is the point of a shared ledger: the people splitting a bill can see the bill. Anyone holding a trip's six-character join code can join that trip and see its contents, so share codes only with the people you intend to include.

Your email address is visible to us. Your display name and profile picture are visible to people you share a trip with. Nobody outside your trips can see your data.

4. Where it is stored

Data is stored with Supabase, our hosting and database provider, on servers in Sydney, Australia. Supabase processes data on our instructions as a service provider and does not use it for its own purposes.

If you sign in with Google, Google handles that authentication and tells us your email, name and profile picture. We never see your Google password. Google's own privacy policy covers what they do with that sign-in.

Copies of your trips are also cached on your own device so the app works offline. Those stay on your phone and are removed when you delete the app.

5. Legal basis

We process this data to provide a service you asked for — the contract between us — and, where it applies to you, on the legitimate interest of keeping the service working and secure. Where the EU GDPR or UK GDPR applies, those are our Article 6(1)(b) and 6(1)(f) bases. In the Philippines, processing is conducted in accordance with the Data Privacy Act of 2012 (RA 10173).

6. How long we keep it

Trip data is kept for as long as the trip exists. If you delete your account, we delete your profile and your personal details. Expenses you entered into a shared trip may remain visible to the other members, because removing them would silently change what everyone else owes — they are reattributed to a former member rather than erased. If you need those removed too, ask us and we will handle it together with your group.

7. Security

Data is encrypted in transit. Access is enforced at the database level by row-level security, so a request can only reach rows belonging to trips you are a member of — not merely hidden in the interface, but refused by the database. Receipt images are held in a private store that is not publicly browsable.

No system is perfect. If we discover a breach affecting your data, we will notify you and the relevant authority as required by law.

8. Your rights

You can ask us to:

Email claiderreym@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. If you are in the Philippines and unhappy with our response, you may complain to the National Privacy Commission; in the EU or UK, to your local data protection authority.

9. Children

FairShare is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

10. Changes

If this policy changes materially, we will update the date above and, where the change affects you meaningfully, tell you in the app before it takes effect.
